Safeguarding the Next Generation: Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference on No Tobacco Day 2024
As we mark No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2024, we focus on “Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference.” The tobacco industry targets young people with appealing advertising, flavored products, sponsorships, and digital marketing. This year’s theme highlights the urgent need to shield children from these harmful influences.
An alarming 37 million tobacco users are boys and girls aged 13-15 years. Nine out of ten smokers start before 18, and two out of three who try one cigarette become daily smokers. Early exposure leads to addiction and severe health consequences, including respiratory illnesses and cardiovascular diseases.
